Tony Rudge – Associate UKA (Madura Salsa – Beginners to Improvers 1) is a sport/leisure/facilities and events manager and sponsorship trainer. He has organised several major international sports events as well as facilities management of the Wembley Stadium Complex. Through his love of sport he is accomplished in golf, tennis and squash.
His parents were professional dance teachers, and he started on the dance floor at the age of seven when he learnt Ballroom, Latin American and Old Time Dancing. In his teens he turned to Rock ‘n’ Roll and entered competitions as well as giving exhibitions and at the age of 17 years ran a Rock ‘n’ Roll club in Berkhamsted. From that time he also helped his father in his dance studios across the UK. Together they organised an annual event of The International Dance Championships for Ballroom and Latin American at The Royal Albert Hall.
He has been involved in the salsa scene for the last four years and became an Associate of the UKA in 2007. He is currently working with Basil and Yvonne towards setting up daytime classes for more mature groups under the banner of Maduro Salsa.
Yvonne Rudge – Associate UKA (Madura Salsa – Beginners to Improvers 1) is an administrator and book-keeper. Her work involves keeping the accounts and running the payroll for small companies and private clients. Her other achievements include distance running including the London and Dublin Marathons.
She started her dancing activities at the age of five in both Ballet and Tap, this continued for nine years during which she had become a very competent dancer. She then changed course into Ballroom and Latin American dancing and socially entered into the Rock ‘n’ Roll scene. She enjoys encouraging dancers to reach their potential and to keep fit.
She has been involved in the salsa scene for the last four years and became an Associate of the UKA in 2007.
Basil Pinnock – Licentiate UKA (Advanced Partnerwork, Rueda & all levels) – Although a practising lawyer, Basil has a wide variety of interests and pursuits – salsa dancing and photography being two of his most passionate interests. He is currently director of dance2salsa and minds eye photography.
His passion for salsa is evident throughout his teaching and dancing. Basil, who has been dancing for approximately 5 years, teaches and dances Cuban, The ‘Cross Body’ Style including mambo, and is quickly establishing a reputation for Rueda Casino and Cha Cha Cha.
He is UKA qualified to ‘Licentiate’ level after passing his higher level UKA exam in June 2007 with the United Kingdom Alliance.
His classes are fun but there is a great emphasis on technique. His dance style is a mixture of different influences including street and related artforms, jazz and R+B. His classes are delivered to a very high level, even at absolute beginners level and the quality of teaching is second to none.
